Maggie Good I have 17 years experience working with people in pain as a therapist and health care educator. I haven't always been a therapist, in fact my own health challenges and the difficulties I encountered in finding the right people to help me, ultimately resulted in my changing professions to become a therapist. Prior to this I was a full time artist and before that an art teacher. I began as a counselor and art therapist in 1992 with a general practice in Melbourne. I relocated to the Northern Rivers area in 2002 and have a practice in Tweed Heads South. As a counselor and art therapist, I worked with people suffering emotional pain - depression, anxiety, stress symptoms. I noticed that almost every client who suffered emotional distress also suffered physical pain. So I did some more training, this time in body oriented therapies. I saw further improvement in my client’s ... they had less pain but then they'd plateau. There was a sense that something was missing. I had good therapies, but they didn't integrate. With further study and reading I understood that body and mind, heart and soul must be integrated and even more importantly, they must communicate with each other.
As a CranioSacral therapist I don't diagnose or give names to your pain, that's the job of your doctor, naturopath, physio or other health care professionals. I regard pain and dis-ease as disorganised or restricted energy. When you understand that your entire body ... skin, muscles, bones, nerves, organs, systems ... are masses of molecules vibrating ... they are energy ... you'll also understand that you are energy. So too, your thoughts and feelings are energy/atoms. What you think, what you feel and your state of health are each influenced by the other. It's been my experience that when there are restrictions in the flow of energy through and around your body, you experience pain, distress and dis-ease. CranioSacral Therapy encourages and promotes a free flow of Energy and where Energy flows unimpeded, you experience not only pain relief but Wellness in every level and layer of your Being. My qualifications:
That my clients always feel safe, supported, understood, respected and heard. In every way, from the moment we first make contact and when you walk into my practice room, I hear you, I respect you, I honour you, and I commit myself to helping you to help yourself. As a CranioSacral therapist, I feel your tension, anxiety, excitement, grief, joy, worry, anger, fear, courage, unspoken words and anything else that you can't always express, through my hands. This is one of the reasons CST is so effective with babies who haven’t yet learned to speak or with those who can’t speak. CST is a therapy that ‘listens’ with every sense. I take great care to create an environment in which you feel safe and supported. It's YOUR life and my role is to walk beside you for a little way. I can't fix you or heal you or cure you or make it right for you. Only you can do that. We all have times of confusion, doubt, despair and darkness. At these times when you feel like you're in the dark, what I can do is to walk a little way with you, holding a torch to shine in the dark and light the way forward. When it's too scary, I'll walk in front of you. When you just need a bit of support and encouragement I'll walk beside you. When you know which way to go, I'll walk behind you as you lead the way. It's your journey and your path, I'm just a companion for a while. That I endorse and encourage your unique strengths, resources and skills. Until the moment you take your last breath, there is a great deal of you that is well, functional and Whole. As well as responding to your concerns and what’s not right, I pay attention to all the strengths, skills, resources, health, wellbeing and wisdom that are already there. Sometimes all it takes is a shift in your perspective and thinking to lift the layers of stuff you don’t want and there underneath it you’ll find what you do want. It’s been there all along, obscured by your belief system that’s been built and shaped by your life experience. When you change your beliefs and the way you feel, you change your life. It's that simple and that profound. I wish you Well
